ABOUT: Tenuta di Valgiano vines are grown on 40 acres of a 200 acre certified organic and certified biodynamic swath of earth in the beautifully rugged Colline Lucchesi DOC in Tuscany. Moreno Petrini & Laura di Collobiano founded the winery in 1992 and make exceptional, elegant wines that have been impressing in-the-know wine people for decades. They’re up in the hills surrounded by forest so the wines have a cooler style that most traditional Tuscan reds. Their wines are characterized as being whistle-clean and perfectly translate the unique character of their terroir. They also produce olive oil and honey, what do you want to bet they’re fantastic?

TASTE: Valgiano’s Palistorti Rosso is a vivid red wine blending a predominate proportion of Sangiovese with Merlot and Syrah to make a juice puffing with cherries, plums, raspberries, fennel, rosemary, pepper and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with bright, citric acid and medium, dusty tannins. The alcohol is a pleasant medium and the finish is long. In 2020 this 2013 is just now getting into its great drinking window, the edges have smoothed, the fruit is starting to make way for herbs, and it’s at the peak of perfection for the dinner table.

PAIR: Eggplant fontina, grilled leeks with Romesco sauce, Cacio e Pepe, rosemary roasted potatoes, pan fried vegetable dumplings, and a sun dried tomato and zucchini frittata.
