ABOUT: Pyramid Valley; a name to be filed away in your NZ biodynamic pioneer database next to Seresin, Milton, and Felton Road. Pyramid Valley began life as a biodynamic vineyard in 2000, in a well chosen spot in North Canterbury, on the east coast of New Zealands south island. They did not have to convert their vineyard to biodynamics like most, and today are Demeter certified. Mike and Claudia Weersing run the show and are fully dedicated to achieving the lowest artificial input levels in their wines as possible. Mike actually worked for Deiss and Kreydenweiss in Alsace, direct biodynamic inspiration. Their meticulous wine making practices shine through in their incredible collection of focused wines. TASTE: Cursing is unprofessional but dang! this wine is good. Sorry everyone for that outburst. Just when you’re getting comfortable with knowing the differences between California Pinot Noir and Oregon Pinot Noir in steps this single vineyard Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir from New Zealand and completely over delivers. I fall for wines pretty easily and every wine I’ve had from Pyramid Valley becomes my favorite (Pinot Blanc!). Aromas and flavors of cranberry, plum, blackberry and loads of white flower, thyme, pepper, cocoa, cedar. The fruits are twinkly bright and fresh with a good amount of citric-like acidity and medium tannins. Well balanced, fresh and bright with a long finish. Just an excellent expression of Pinot Noir from New Zealand that needs to be shared. Tell everyone!

PAIR: Grilled cheese dripping with Swiss Vacherin cheese, veggie chili, Bialy bagel with red pepper cream cheese, roasted Kumara salad, and a quick Greek salad from the grocery store.
