Description

ABOUT: Belle Pente wines come from Oregon’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA making top notch Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. Biodynamic practices, dry farming, low sulphites…healthy practices making really great wine. The vines live on gentle slopes and the wines are made gently with as little human intervention as possible. This is a pretty common statement for many of the best wines from Oregon, but you can actually taste and feel the light touch of these wines. Gentle, comforting with soft, sunny edges opposed to earthly or angular wines that teeter on the edge of ripeness. You can taste the thoughtfulness and respect put into each vintage.

TASTE: Taste this Belle Pente Chardonnay and you’ll understand why there is so much chatter about Chardonnay in Oregon. Chardonnay works in Oregon, the wines are very good and priced beautifully. According to the good folks at Belle Pente they are after both the lush fruity “new world” style of wine and the firm acidity of the “old world” renditions. Belle Pente Chardonnay is made from estate grown fruit from a 2 acre parcel on a steep southwest facing slope. The grapes are picked in 2 passes, and the wines are aged sur lie for 12 months in barrel, then a handful of months prior to release. Aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, citrus peel, light baking spice and bright, citric acidity cuts the fat of this almost full bodied wine. Long finish. I’d be happy to open a bottle of this in 2024.

PAIR: Roasted carrots with sage brown butter, pea pesto with walnuts, sorrel and ginger roasted cauliflower, and almond butter tofu stir fry.
