Description

ABOUT: It would be hard to talk about biodynamics without mentioning Nikolaihof, one of the oldest wineries in the Wachau region of Austria, launching their foray into biodynamics in 1971 and being the very first to be Demeter certified in 1998. The Saahs family took over in the late 19th century and Nikolaus Saahs is the current winemaker. The have 22 hectares planted to Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, Weissburgunder, Malvasier, Neuburger, and Chardonnay, with an average vine age of 50 years. There is much written about Nikolaihof so providing links to a few excellent articles seems appropriate. Read this excellent articles with neat pictures from winederlust.com

TASTE: My god, the ever verbose importer Terry Theise wrote some fantastic words about this wine. Not even gonna try, copy and paste. Rabbit muscles.

“Refined vetiver aromas, sweet smoke and oleander – exceptionally beautiful! Even by these standards. The palate is ecstatic; sweetly taut, the exhalings of happy plants, the curious mystery of chlorophyll and waving meadows, the rippling of rabbit muscles, the smile of sinew as they take the stretch they needed. Sure I’m babbling, but this was the right thing to say because only one place on this earth can make a wine like this one.” – Terry Theise
