Description

ABOUT: Matetic is one of only a few biodynamic wineries in Chile and has a HUGE 16,000 hectare estate in the San Antonio Valley in the Casablanca region. Only a small corner of this 16k is used for farming grapes which go into their outstanding lineup of wines. The rest of the land is home to sheep, blueberries, and a beautiful looking hotel. Being 20km from the ocean leads to the most-desirable high-diurnal shift, cool nights and hot days. This helps retain acidity and freshness in their Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir. We are big fans of Matetic, especially the older vintages, which develop handsomely.

TASTE: Most of the grapes sourced for this superb Pinot Noir come from the Matetic vineyards from the El Rosario Valley. The fruit is treated to a maritime climate and slopes of granite, ideal for a generous Pinot Noir. Earthy aromas and flavors of ripe strawberries, cherries, gun powder, orange peel, black pepper, clove and campfire. The medium plus level of acidity keeps this wine youthful and fresh, the long finish has Sally and I coming back for more. A few years in the bottle has done wonders for this beauty.

PAIR: Sour cherry and goat cheese tarts, cinnamon peanut fried tofu, caramelized vegetable fajitas, black pepper mushroom gravy over potatoes, and spinach Spanakopita.
