Description

ABOUT: The Brocards settled in the village of Prehy near Chablis in 1973. Jean-Marc had married a vignerons daughter from St. Bris and was gifted 1 hectare of vines; he now has over 200 hectares, a mixture of his own and long-term contracts with farmers in the area, making red and white wine from all over the region, but the crown jewels are the wines from Chablis. Jean-Marcs son Julien and son-in-law Frederic Gueguen handle the day-to-day business now and Julien has been the impetus for the incorporation of biodynamic methods into their program. TASTE: This 100% Chardonnay is from the famous and vast Chablis Grand Cru vineyard Les Clos. 2016 was tough in Chablis, there was frost and hail storms and yields were low. However, the surviving fruit went into some truly classic Chablis, lemony, bright, fresh, and built for long ageing. The critical acclaim is in abundance so we’re going to save our breath and let the journalists flip the script and wax about this incredible wine.

Wine Enthusiast gave it 95 points “This is a structured wine, ripe while layered with minerality and a full texture. Rich yellow and white stone fruits are cut with steely acidity that shows the wine's aging potential. Coming from arguably the finest of the Grand Cru vineyards, the wine is still young”.

Wine Spectator gave it 92 points “The juicy apple, melon and lemon fruit flavors, bright structure and supple texture all come together in this rich white. Firms up enough on the finish, where a chalky feel lingers.

PAIR: Guacamole, goat cheese, roasted vegetables with herb butter sauce, passion fruit pudding cake, and fried cheese curds.
