Description

ABOUT: Dominique Lafon began his winemaking career in 1987 when he took over the responsibility for the family vineyards Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault. Since that time he has established a reputation as one of the most valued winemakers in Burgundy and set out in 2008 to make wines under his own name. He now farms 4.5 hectares of vines in Beaune, Meursault, Volnay, and Puligny-Montrachet. The wines are made and bottled at Chateau de Bligny. Dominique uses organic and biodynamic methods and the wines are in high high demand. There is excellent value to be had here (hard to say about Burgundy sometimes) especially from the wines that come from the premier crus.

TASTE: The Premier Cru vineyard Vignes Franches is north of the Clos des Mouches, and is considered the most structured of his 1er wines. This wine is 100% Pinot Noir with aromas and flavors of blackberries and cherries, accompanied by heaps of potting soil, mushroom, pepper and fennel. We look to Jasper Morris for all insight into Burgundy and this is what he had to say about the 2017 Vignes Franches “15 barrels this year. Medium purple in color. There is a lovely weight of fruit, in quite a different style from his Volnays, with a slightly darker fruit. It is generous on the palate, with dark raspberry notes, and good length. Seamless tannins again.”
