ABOUT: One of the leaders of the Savennieres appellation in the Loire Valley, Evelyne de Jessey-Pontbriand has been the day to day operator since 2001 of this historic domaine that has been in existence since 1495! There is so much interesting history surrounding this domaine that I added a link below to a profile written by Richard Kelley, deftly outlining the lineage. Three wines, all made from Chenin Blanc are produced from 16.9 hectares, each given the name of their individual parcel. There is also a bit of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon producing an Anjou-Villages wine. Evelyne, with Bruno Perray in the cellar have transformed the wines into terrior-driven Chenin Blancs with tremendous character and strength.

TASTE: The 2011 is a tremendous example of dry Chenin Blanc from one of the most blessed regions to grow it, Savennieres. Flavors of lemon/lime peel, grapefruit, that quintessential waxy smell (some say lanolin or wet wool) and stones. Full, fat body, amazing richness and electric acidity which provides elegant balance. Long finish and has substantial ageing potential.

PAIR: Fried foods, dill, citrus, corn, apples, asparagus, apricot, veggie kung pao chicken, and cauliflower.
