Description

ABOUT: Domaine de Montille is one of the most prolific Burgundy producers, whose winemaking heritage traces back to the 17th century. In 1947 Hubert de Montille took over the running of the estate, which was in need of much repair, and commenced the long journey back to health. His son, Étienne came aboard in 1983 and by 1995 was co-managing the property with his father. In 1995 the conversion to organics began, and in 2005 the implementation of biodynamic practices commenced. Today they have more than 35 hectares of mostly Premier Cru vine in Cote de Beaune, and is the origin of what we think is one of their very best wine, the Les Brouillards from Volnay. They have .37 hectares at the rocky top of the hill and make elegant, bright red fruit Pinot Noir. Only 226 cases were made in 2017. Scarce and delicious, get it while it’s available.

TASTE: Neal Martin from Vinous had this to say in January 2019 about Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards 2017 – “The 2017 Volnay Les Brouillards was the first red picked this year on 2 September. It has an attractive bouquet with raspberry and cranberry fruit neatly folded into the 30% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite dense and grippy on the entry with a bold, sinewy finish that is actually more like a Pommard. It might just miss some finesse but there is impressive length in situ.”

PAIR: Fennel and garlic fettuccine, roasted walnut and cauliflower tacos, nutmeg roasted carrots, and thyme roasted root vegetables with a creamy tarragon sauce.
