Description

ABOUT: Domaine Menard-Gaborit has been in the wine business since the 18th century with the current iterations of the wines come from 5th generation Philippe and Thierry Menard. They’ve consistently expanded their vineyard holdings and are committed to organic viticulture with 2020 being the year of certification. All of their wines are worth seeking out but the wines made in the Cru system within Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine are the most exciting thing going. The Melon de Bourgogne from these special terriors take on dimensions that are remarkable for their humble price. The land here is cheap and the World is lucky that thoughtful producers like Menard-Gaborit are snatching it up.

TASTE: Good Muscadet is a true pleasure and the Domaine Menard-Gaborit Monnieres -Saint-Fiacre 2017 goes from pleasure to being a full fledged intellectual experience. The development of well made Muscadet can rival the very best whatevers, ask any wine dork. This Melon de Bourgogne comes from the Cru Monnieres where the vines are 30-40 years old and grow on gneiss. They age this wine on its lees for 3 years! It shows, with added richness and yestiness along with aromas and flavors of raised dough, salt, lime, and tart green apple. Both rich and airy at the same time, with a little funky earth clicking along in the background. A most delicate texture and the stuffing for long, positive development.

PAIR: Chicharrones de Harina, Pad See Ew, burrito mojado, pickled beets and eggs with onions, leafy green salad with goat cheese, and broccoli quiche.
