ABOUT: Domaine de Montille is one of the most prolific Burgundy producers and the families winemaking heritage is traced back to the 17th century. In 1947 Hubert de Montille took over the estate, in need of much repair, and began the long green journey back to health. His son, Étienne came aboard in 1983 and by 1995 was co-managing the property with his father. Commencing in ‘95 the conversion to organics began, and in 2005 began implementing biodynamic practices, then officially certified in 2012. Also in 2012, Etienne finalized a deal to purchase Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet which he’d been the managing director of since 2002. This deal made them one of the biggest land holders in the Cote de Beaune and we should all be glad for it. More vines in good hands is always the way to go. Follow this link to a Wine Spectator article detailing the how the sale went down-

Burgundy's Domaine de Montille Aquires Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet

TASTE: 2012 was a difficult vintage in Burgundy, mostly due to low yields affected by not one, but two devastating hail storms. So very little wine was produced. The quality of the fruit was exceptional however, and we were lucky to get our hands on the last few bottles of this 2012 Monthelie. To quote the De Montille website …”The aromas have a rare complexity and elegance. They offer an astonishing bouquet of spices, cherry pits, black fruits, dried flowers, musk and hard candies. The textures are simultaneously dense and ethereal. The attacks are brisk and the mid-palates are ethereal and lengthy. The tannins are soft and well-wrapped in intense fruit that vascillates between tangy and sweet. The suave finishes offer refreshment and persistence.”

PAIR: Sour cherry Persian rice, grilled Portobello mushroom tacos, corn tamales with tomatillo salsa, Camembert croquettes, and Turkish roasted vegetables with chickpeas.
