Description

ABOUT: Chakana is easily one of the most impressive winemaking ventures in Argentina at the moment. The wines were birthed when master winemaker Alberto Antonini recognized the potential of the area and of Malbec in the 1990’s. The vineyards are incredible and sit 1000m above sea level in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, 452 acres of ‘em. The farming is biodynamic and the wines are bold and elegant, nothing overly jammy, oaky or fruity, just balanced, rich, exquisite wines.

TASTE:This is an intense wine, aromas of blackberries, cherries and smoked meat are strong and invite further investigation. The tannins are remarkably fine, the dusty sort, and complement a higher than average amount of acid along with a medium+ body. Balanced oak, massive concentration of flavors and a very long finish. The structure allows for some good ageing and it would be interesting to see what this wine is like in ten years. I’m guessing great.

PAIR:Edam-filled empanadas, veggie Biryani, herb roti, mole enchiladas, and arepa stuffed with spicy mushrooms.
