ABOUT: The wellspring of Antica Terra’s wine is a rocky hillside in Eola-Amity Hills in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. It’s been proven that grapes benefit from a bit of struggle in their upbringing and this gnarly vineyard of varied soils and topography provide many obstacles that keeps winemaker Maggie Harrison on her toes. No easy task making wines here, but Maggie’s attention to detail shine bright in these stellar Pinot Noirs. And on a personal note, Antica Terra has some of the finest label design in the wine game. Definitely one of the elite wines of the Willamette Valley with much to look forward to in the future.

TASTE: We love the description of Botanica on the Antica Terra website so we copy and paste…”
Botanica is always sappy and sanguine with a taste of wild rose, sour cherries, and blood orange. It is tempting to define it solely by its compelling texture and lush personality but there is a structural element that is equally striking. This balance between extraordinarily concentrated fruit and intense levels of extract is the essence of this wine. Antica Terra deserves the attention it gets and seems to be one of the best examples of what the Willamette Valley has to offer. It’s pricey but these things only get pricier. Get it while it’s reasonably affordable.

PAIR: Finnish squeaky cheese, braised greens with tomatoes, black pepper tofu, celery fennel stir fry with cashews, and eggplant Parmesan.
