Description

ABOUT:Oregon biodynamic wine producer Analemma began winemaking life in the mid-2000’s by leasing the Atavus vineyard on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge, making their first Pinot’s and Gewurztraminers. In 2012 Kris Fade and Steve Thompson planted their own vineyard in the Mosier Hills, which is part of an ancient eddy created by the Missoula floods, located between the Hood River and The Dalles. Here is where they bring a different approach to the Oregon wine scene in the form of a unique set of grape varieties. Rather than sticking to the Pinot Noir / Chardonnay script, they’re tempting us with Tempranillo, Mencia and Gewurztraminer, not to mention a fantastic blanco made from Godello and Albarino. Organic and biodynamic practices are in effect and they became Demeter certified in 2017. In addition to vineyards they have 10 acres of apple orchards, cow pastures, lavender fields and gardens for days. These are early times for Analemma, we’re happy to drink and sell the current Analemma offerings and excited for the future.

What is the analemma? The analemma is a figure-eight shape of the sun’s annual migratory path between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres as seen from Earth. This pattern is caused by the tilt of the earth’s axis and is a visual cue of the sun’s movement through the calendar year.

TASTE: We like what winemaker Steve Thompson has to say about this wine: “This Mosier Hills Estate blend of 85% Godello and 15% Albariño offers bright aromas of white flowers and peach, which accompany a balanced, full texture on the palate. Notes of keylime play alongside a mouth-watering saline character on the palate. Our foundational white wine from the soils of Mosier Hills is inspired by Galician heritage. Medium bodied and dry, with more herbs than flowers & more mineral expression than fruit.”

PAIR: Salad rolls, stir fried tofu with fresh ginger, forest curry with peppers and zucchini, tortilla de patatas, white bean stew, and Cardoon fried with almonds.
